Misfed or Skewed Copies
- Remove the paper out of the drawer and check the pages at the bottom of the stack for pages that are curled up or under. Remove and discard any bent or curled sheets. Fan the paper and put back into the drawer.
- Check to make sure the paper guides are tight against the paper.
- If a misfeed or skewing still exists, try a different paper drawer. If the problem goes away, remove the paper from the problem drawer and call for service. While waiting for the tech to arrive, you can still make copies using the other drawers.

Lines or Dirty Copies
This issue could be as easy as a quick cleanup. Again, follow the steps below:
- Clean both pieces of glass with a window cleaner. Spray cleaner on a soft cloth, not directly on the glass (the large glass and small slit glass next to it).
- If a line still exists, make a copy off the glass. If you still see the line, call for service.
- If the line is not there, make a copy using the document feeder. If the line shows up, place your copy with the line on it next to the scan glass to help you find the mark. Use your thumb nail to remove the mark. Try making another copy using the document feeder. If the line still exists call for service.
Paper Jams
The paper jam is the most common copy machine error encountered. The reasons for occurrence vary from the wrong paper size to plain old improper paper loading. These issues cause the copier to pull paper through incorrectly, resulting in a jam that delays your copy or print. Fixing these types of issues require you to remove the jammed paper manually and reload the proper paper size or correcting the paper alignment.
Additionally, paper dust does exist, believe it or not, and has a tendency to clog the machine and lead to paper jams. The best way to avoid this problem is to periodically wipe the feed tires clean and from time to time, vacuum away dust build up inside the copier.

Error Codes
Use the following procedure to correct error codes on your printer or copier.
- Turn the machine off using both switches.
- First, turn off the Sub switch on the Control Panel.
- Wait until the “Start” button light turns off, then turn off the Main switch.
- Wait 20 seconds then turn on the Main switch, and then the Sub switch. If the error does not reset, call for service.
Printing & Scanning Issues
Make sure the network cable is plugged into the wall and the machine securely.
- Turn the machine off using both switches, similar to the procedure above for correct error codes.

- Wait until the “Start” button light turns off, then turn off the Main switch.
- Wait 20 seconds, then turn on the Main switch, and then the Sub switch.
- Wait at least 4 minutes for the Controller to boot up. Even though the machine says ready, the Controller is not.
- If you still cannot Print or Scan, contact your IT support person - if you do not have an in office IT person - call for service.
Toner Cartridge Issues
Low, empty or malfunctioning toner issues can occur within your copy machine. If they are low or empty, simple replacement should repair the issue. If it is malfunctioning, there could be one of two things going on:
- Defective or empty cartridge
- Compatibility Issues – most copy machines require specific toner; if you try and use an incompatible cartridge, your print quality will suffer
Fax Issues
If you are getting calls from people you have sent faxes to saying there is a line on the faxes you are sending, see the “Lines or Dirty Copies” section above. If you are having a transmission problem, either sending or receiving faxes, read on for ways to correct the problem:
If you cannot send or receive faxes, check the phone line. Press “Off Hook” or “Line Monitor” to make sure you have a dial tone.
If you do not have a dial tone, check to make sure the telephone line cord is plugged into the wall outlet, and the other end is plugged into the “Line” port (not the “Tel” port) of the machine. If the line cord is correct, call your phone company.
If you have dial tone but cannot send to one or two numbers, verify the numbers. If they are correct, call for service.

Wrinkled Pages
There is nothing professional about copy pages that come out of the machine crinkled. Rather than looking like a consummate business professional, your employees show up for meetings or submit paperwork for reports that look like they were dug out of a student’s backpack.
Wrinkled pages are often the result of worn out feed and exit rollers that cause sticking or jamming. But, worn out paper trays, moisture caused by humidity and fuser assemblies can also lead to wrinkled pages. If paper is noticeably damaged for any reason, do not use it. For issues with paper trays, you can purchase replacements. However, fixing the fuser assembly and feed rollers requires the assistance of a technician so you would need to call for service.

Copies are Too Light or Too Dark
The majority of the time, issues with light and dark on copy pages is going to be the result of an imbalance in the density controls on the copier. Someone may have inadvertently altered the settings previously, making subsequent images copied too light or too dark. In this case, resetting the density levels is the best solution.
